We train in Wetlands, Flooded timber, Farm ponds, Gravel Pits, Hay fields, wooded land,
Rolling Cattle farms, Milo, Switch Grasses, and Harvested Corn Fields. You name it we Train in it.
HRC is affiliated with the United Kennel Club, Inc., Kalamazoo, MI, who carries the registry
for the HRC. The UKC offers 5 coveted titles to the HRC program: Started Hunting Retriever (SHR);
Hunting Retriever (HR); Hunting Retriever Champion (HRCH); Grand Hunting Retriever Champion (GRHRCH); and Upland Hunter (UH).
We understand that not everyone has the same requirements for their dog. We offer an extensive,
comprehensive, personalized training that produces the dog you want. In-depth consideration is
given to both the owner and the animal. We also will teach you to handle your trained Retriever.

passed 10 out of 10 Upland test ran, impeccable Line Manners, great Marking Dog, Precision Handling,
Passed 27 out of 33 Finished test ran, earned his Certified Pointing Retriever Title in one day,

On Occasion we take a Pick of the litter from a breeding of our stud dog Blaze and train with the intention
of producing a great started dog one that is ready to take to the duck blind on Opening day or into the upland
field to hunt Pheasant, quail or any of the upland Game. We could also produce a great finished dog. One
that can stop to the whistle and handle on Blind retrieves and do multiple marks.
Once you have hunted over a trained Waterfowl or Upland dog you will be hooked for life. We take our started dogs into our
home so that he/she is oriented in a family enviroment. they are housebroken, Crate trained, Obedience trained including 2
sided Heeling, Sit, Down, here and to be steady on sit and down. Doing Single and Double retrieves with gunfire. Live and
dead birds from Ducks, pheasants, Chuckars, Pigeons, and Quail. Retrieving in water and all types of Terrain. Our started
dogs are introduced to Decoys, boats, water stands, and lay out blinds everything we can think of to get them ready for hunting.
We sale our started dogs anywhere from 5 months to 12 months with the older pups having more advanced training. When our
pups leave here they could run Started or Junior hunt test. We start Force Fetch and Collar conditioning at 6 months. We
guarantee you will be impressed with one of our started dogs. We want our started dog to not only go to hunting homes but,
ones that will take our dogs into there home so they can live with and be apart of your family for the rest of there lives.

Trainer, Carolyn Elam has competed Labrador Retrievers in AKC, UKC, and APLA hunt tests. She has titled
several dogs to the finished level of HUNTING RETRIEVER CHAMPION and also has competed at the HRC Grand.
Carolyn has run many Master Hunter test and has earned Master Hunter titles. Her extensive knowledge of
making an excellent Upland Game dog is uncompared and she trained many Pointing Labrador Retrievers
earning APLA titles.
In the winter you can find her out guiding Upland hunts. She guides professionally at several Hunting
preserves in her area.
My love for animals started when I was very young. As soon as I could speak all I ever wanted was a
dog or horse. (I almost drove my mother crazy!) I didn't play with dolls, like other little girls. It was the
Johny West Collection for me!
You could find me, most days, out in the yard making corrals out of sticks and kite string. I remember
one family vacation we took to the Smokey mountains and my Mom bought me a stuffed Black Bear. It had a leash and
collar on it. I drug it around like it was my pet dog.
My dog training days started with a Cocker Spaniel named Miki in 1972. Miki had some obebience training when we
bought him. It did not take long before we where competing in 4-H. I was lucky enough to have a 4-H advisor that lived
down the road. I showed Miki for 3 years until my Mom bought my first horse. I told her last year she should of bought
me Labrador Retriever and could of saved us both a ton of money. But, I was horse crazy and she was tired of listening
to my nagging. She is a good Mom so my career with showing dogs was put on hold for a while. I continued to show 4-H until
I was to old and graduated from High School.
I spent the next 26 years training horses. I trained everything from Western Pleasure, Dressage, Evented, Jumpers,
to Park Harness. I was a farm manager for a Hunter, jumber, dressage stable for 2 years. While I was there, I bought
my first Registered Labarador Retriever, Black Magic Buck. I trained him on obediance and to retrieve, which he did with
a passion. I had Buck till 1997 when, with much sobbing, we had to put him to sleep at he was 13yrs.
I earned my first Title on him Canine Good Citizen not much but, at the time I was proud. I kept a son out of a litter
Buck sired. My first Fox Red "Flash Of Magic".
My first love in the Horse industry was my first job on a Thourghbred farm I started off in the breeding shed where
my duties involved the care of all breeding stock form Mares and foals to some of the finest thourghbred stallions.
It was not to long that my love of riding had me up in the saddle of some of the most high strung horses you'll ever see!
I broke and galloped horses as a exercise rider for 6 years. I worked at River Downs, Turfway and Keenland. All the time
when I could, Buck and Flash would accompany me to work. They both entertained many people with there Retireving desires.
When I ended my career in horses to go home and help run a business for my brother
I got back into compititon in the Obedience ring. It wasn't long till Flash earned his CD title and CDX title.
By now I had 3 Labradors Buck, Flash and Tornado(giving to me by a farm manager in Lexington going away gift). We had our
first litter out of Tornado and Flash in 1993 she has 2 litter all where very nice puppies. I never kept a puppy out of them.
In 1998 I meet Paul Elam and in 2000 we where married. I told Paul my dream to have a Labrador Retirever that I
could train to hunt and compete. Oh I had hunted Flash from time to time and he would pick up ducks but, I really
wanted to get serious. Flash was getting Old by now so I need a new Dog. So 4 days after Paul and I where married
I drove to Hillsboro Ohio and brought Home Blaze beautiful Fox Red puppy out of some very nice English Champion and
Conformation lines. My brother David had givin me a book years ago with the words make those dogs do what there suppose
to do HUNT. So with many trial and Error I now am the proud owner of HRCH UH CPR TREDDOLPHIN BLAZING RED SH My first Hunt
test partner of many to come. As Dogs go he is the love of my life.
